How to Build an Enrolled Agent Exam Study Plan
A useful SEE study plan covers the official topics and keeps tax-year context clear. Balance learning, closed-book recall and unfamiliar questions.
Choose one part and identify the gaps
Compare your experience with the official content for Individuals, Businesses or Representation, Practices and Procedures. Mark topics you can explain without notes and those that require learning. Do not choose an order solely because someone else called one part easy.
Confirm the applicable tested tax-law dates before organizing notes. Mixing amounts and thresholds from different cycles creates confusion that additional repetition will not fix.
Structure the week around repeatable tasks
Use short learning blocks for one rule or process, then test recall before opening the notes. Add longer blocks for application and mixed review. A schedule that depends on an unusually quiet work week is not a reliable baseline.
An illustrative pattern is two learning sessions, two retrieval-and-question sessions and one cumulative review block. Extend or reduce the calendar as your baseline and available capacity require; it is not a guaranteed completion schedule.
Record rules with their conditions
A concise rule sheet should include who the rule applies to, the relevant transaction and exceptions that change the result. For procedures, record the situation and next action rather than copying definitions alone.
For missed questions, identify the overlooked fact and correct reasoning. Return after a delay and try a changed-facts example. If the same issue persists, revisit the relevant ATMF lesson rather than only repeating the question.
Review readiness and exam logistics separately
Check coverage, retention and application with unfamiliar work. Also verify appointment rules, identification and current IRS enrollment steps. A strong practice percentage does not substitute for either task.
If work commitments repeatedly displace study, adjust the calendar honestly. Protect a modest review routine and reserve time to close gaps before moving to the next part.
Questions candidates ask
Should I take multiple parts close together?

Does the course grant EA status?
No. ATMF provides preparation; the IRS administers enrollment requirements and status.
